Describe what you are doing now and a little bit about your career journey.
I’ve always been an artistically inclined entrepreneur (if that’s such a thing) – And felt that no matter what I set out to do, the path would probably be a bit different and unique. I started directing music videos/commercials/indie films after graduating from HH (no college for the son of the college counselor) – And found success on the commercials side, soon founding my ad-agency/studio (in 2013), THE BOATHOUSE AGENCY which services clients like Netflix, Verizon, Lovesac, TransUnion, iRobot and beyond. We are currently a global company with offices in NYC, Chicago, Los Angeles, London and South Africa. Wanting to keep my foot in the narrative space (creatively) I saw an “in” with the streaming landscape – while most premium platforms were consolidating and offering more and more content, I saw it as a tension point to viewers – What if I could offer only one new star-studded premium original a month and pair the right advertisers with it, to offer it to consumers for free… That’s how I launched our new streaming platform THE NETWORK (linked below – and available on any app or smart TV) – We are now 2 years old – with 9 Originals, and a new Original every month.
What is something in your life of career you are most proud of?
Being a dad, while launching a new brand, balancing family and creative passions. Ask my kids in 20 years if it’s something I should have been proud of.
What are your ultimate goals for the future and what do you want your legacy to be?
I think I’m supposed to say be the best father to my children, but honestly, THEY should learn how to be the best kids to ME, ungrateful little… Or, sure the dad thing.
What was your favorite class or memories from your years at Highland Hall?
The school plays were always a fabulous experience, felt like its own utopian world of excitement where nothing else mattered outside of opening night! I chase that feeling every day.
What skills or abilities did Highland Hall help foster and grow?
The ability to connect with others and be persuasive – There is no better place in the world to learn the craft of emotionally connecting to another human being through story.
Anything else you’d like to share? Advice for our younger Alumni?
Don’t let your parent’s anxieties about your success, drive your wants and desires post high school graduation – You’re your own person; go to college or don’t go to college, travel, etc. The only way to disrupt and change the world is to find YOUR voice, and you have a very short sliver of time to do that between high school and real life. Seize the day!
