May Newsletter

I’ve been traveling a lot this year, and I am looking forward to returning to the East Coast in a few weeks. On May 21st at 3pm, I will be performing at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center, in New Jersey,  with TranscenDanceGroup, led by choreographer Gabriel Chajnik. We will be performing G*D, a multimedia dance performance that tells the story of how Gabriel’s uncle Haim and his family survived the Holocaust by hiding in a hole beneath a barn for almost two years. I have been part of this project since 2012 as both a soloist and arranger, and I’m glad that we have this opportunity to bring this story to a new audience.

In February, I had the opportunity to perform on some of the Violins of Hope, instruments that were played on by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust and that have been restored by Amnon Weinstein. Ammon has been so incredibly generous as to entrust us with one of the instruments from his collection for May’s performance. Being able to feature this instrument and its story will enrich the performance so much, and we are deeply grateful.

Here is a recent recording I did of some solo Bach, which I hope you will enjoy!

On Saturday, May 6th at 11:30 am, we will be giving the world premiere of “Webbed”, a piece written for us by composer Rachel Epperly. This will be part of Leah’s doctoral bassoon recital and the rest of the program will be a somewhat eclectic selection of bassoon music. The concert will be at 11:30am in Jeanette MacDonald Hall at the University of Southern California.  It is free and all are welcome to attend.
